THE 2022 MENSTRUAL EQUITY ROLL CALL

PERIOD. is excited to partner with the Alliance for Period Supplies to present the state of menstrual equity in the US, presented by PERIOD. Chapters and Alliance for Period Supplies allied partners!

THE STATE OF PERIOD EDUCATION IN THE UNITED STATES

Period stigma and a lack of menstrual health education have been root causes of systemic issues impacting students, families, and policies around the United States. To make a lasting impact, it is essential to talk about periods at home, in the classroom, and in our everyday lives. But how do we do that effectively?

MENSTRUAL DIGNITY BEYOND THE BILL: INCLUSIVE IMPLEMENTATION IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Oregon passed the Menstrual Dignity Act in 2021, and the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) was one of the first state agencies to create a toolkit that provide guidance and resources for Oregon public schools to successfully implement this new policy. This 20-min audio discussion with the ODE staff speaks to their lessons learned as they implemented this inclusive menstrual equity policy in Oregon's public schools

#PERIODACTIONDAY

PERIOD ACTION DAY (PAD) was started in 2019 by PERIOD., and originally named National Period Day. In 2020, it was renamed to Period Action Day and now serves as a global day of advocacy to celebrate the impact of youth activists in the menstrual equity movement and propel the movement forward with calls to action for everyone.

WHY PERIOD ACTION DAY?

  • Nearly 1 in 4 U.S. students who menstruate struggle to afford period products.

There are still over 20 states that tax period products, but not other things like Viagra or Cowboy Hats.

About 800 million people around the world are menstruating on any given day, and periods are still WAY too pricey.

We’re on a mission to eradicate the unjust tampon tax in the remaining United States.

Find out if your state still taxes you for your period in our Tampon Tax Tracker, in partnership with the Alliance for Period Supplies.

  • 1 in 5 American girls have missed school due to lack of access to menstrual products. No one should have to skip a period because of a period.

Sometimes menstruators get their period during school, and they have to bleed through their clothes because they can’t find a period product soon enough. Been there, or know someone who has?

We are on a mission to ensure every school offers free menstrual products. See our Period Products in Schools Policy Tracker, in partnership with the Alliance for Period Supplies for a glimpse of states that have passed this legislation.

  • Hard to believe it, but yes there’s more. See the 2021 State of the Period Study for the latest research.

The story doesn’t end with the statistics, however.

Through direct distribution of period products, comprehensive and stigma-busting menstrual health education, and systemic policy change, we WILL eradicate period poverty in our lifetime.

Periods don’t stop - and until period poverty is a thing of the past, neither will we.

    Join us.
