Topics covered in this online conversation are blood, fertility, reproduction, and sexuality. "The liberation of our body with decolonization robs us of our dignity because we not only lost our cultural heritage but also the connection to dignity for our bodies by knowing, being able to name it, listen to it and thus go through each stage of our lives with dignity from our menarche, gestation childbirth, postpartum until death, they have stolen our peace and freedom in our bodies".

PERIOD ACTION DAY - NAIROBI, KENYA

"Impure" will be shown in the cinema at 4 PM Kenyan time, coinciding with the Period Action Day. It will officially open in cinemas one day before, aligning with another important date, the International Day of the Girl Child, and has premiered in Kenya on September 7th 2024 in Kenya. "Impure" tells the poignant story of June, a twelve-year-old Kenyan girl who, after experiencing her first menstruation at school, is confronted with the cruel realities of exclusion and shame. "Impure" boldly tackles the taboo of "period shaming" and "period poverty”—subjects that continue to oppress millions of girls worldwide, preventing them from accessing education and equal opportunities. It is the first feature film to date, giving us a unique angle by putting the audience in the shoes of an affected girl to follow her through her struggle. This thought-provoking film is inspired by real-life tragedies, making its release not just a cinematic event, but a catalyst for change.

PERIOD ACTION DAY - PHILADELPHIA

  • Google Calendar ICS

The Period Education Project is hosting a menstrual health workshop, called a "PEP Rally", hosted by our amazing medical students at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine. PEP Rallies are physician-created, medically-accurate workshops for young people in middle/high school that cover all the basics of menstrual health, from anatomy to phases of the menstrual cycle to period product options and safe way to use them to abnormal vs. normal menstrual patterns and more. PEP Rallies are led by trained medical students from schools all across the country.

The mission is two-fold, close knowledge gaps and de-stigmatize the topics of periods with trusted menstrual health education while giving medical students the opportunity to navigate these important conversations, serve their communities and become better future doctors.
